A free family budget template (CSV)

One month of a couple’s budget as a CSV file you can open in Google Sheets, Excel or Numbers. The columns are exactly the ones Fam108 exports, so a spreadsheet you start today and the app’s export line up.

Download the template

Download family-budget-template.csv (16 example rows, UTF-8). Open it in Google Sheets with File → Import, or in Excel or Numbers, delete the example rows and start with your own.

Fam108 home screen: family balance, the month’s spending and income, budgets and who spent how much
In the app the same kind of data turns into budgets, totals and who spent how much, on both phones.

What the columns mean

Example: what the month adds up to

The example month has $6,200 of income and $2,182.95 of expenses by the 23rd. Groceries come to $377.45 over five shops, and the $1,400 rent is the largest single line.

By payer, Max has paid $1,712.25, rent included, and Anna $470.70. In a spreadsheet a pivot table by Category or by Payer gives these totals; in Fam108 they appear by themselves, in budgets and on the home screen.

Spreadsheet or app?

A spreadsheet is free, flexible and fine for one person. It gets harder when two people edit it from their phones at the same time, when you want to see what is left in a category before you pay, or when a trip needs a budget of its own. That is the part an app does better.

Using the template well

Keep one row per expense and one file per year; a filter or a pivot table by month gives you the monthly view.

Use the same category names all year: they are what your totals are built on.

If both of you edit the file, use one shared online copy, so you are not working on two versions of the month.

Moving to the app later

Fam108 does not import CSV files: in the app you start the budget fresh. What it gives back is the same format: CSV export works on every plan, so your data can always come out in these columns.

What the template does not do

It has no formulas or charts, on purpose, so it opens the same everywhere. It does not sync between phones, warn you when a category goes over budget or keep a separate budget for a trip; for that there is the family expense tracker in Fam108.

Family budget template: questions and answers

Is the template free?

Yes, free to download and use, with no sign-up.

Will Excel show non-Latin text correctly?

Yes: the file is UTF-8 with a byte order mark, which Excel on Windows needs to show Cyrillic and other scripts properly.

Can I import it into Fam108?

No, Fam108 has no CSV import. The template uses the same columns as the app’s export, so files that come out of Fam108 line up with it.

Which currencies can I use?

Any three-letter currency code; each row carries its own. Totals across different currencies need conversion, which the template does not do.

Why are the categories in English?

They are the keys the app uses in its export, so files from the app and from the template match. Rename them in your copy if you like.

Can two of us use it at the same time?

In a shared online spreadsheet, yes. An app made for two is easier: Fam108 merges edits from both phones field by field.
