Calculate a daily budget for your trip
Enter what you can spend on the trip, what is already gone and how many days are left. You get the amount you can spend each day. It runs in your browser: nothing you type is saved or sent anywhere.
The formula
(budget − already spent) ÷ days left = daily limit
The days left include today. The result is rounded down to the smallest unit of the currency, so you never plan to spend more than you have. If the whole budget is already spent, the limit is zero, not a negative number.
Example: 10 days on a $1,200 budget
Before you spend anything: $1,200 ÷ 10 days = $120 a day.
After two days you have spent $400. That leaves $800 for the 8 days still to go, so the new limit is $800 ÷ 8 = $100 a day. Spend less today and tomorrow’s limit goes up.
Keep the number up to date in Fam108
A calculator gives you a starting figure, and you still subtract every purchase by hand. In Fam108 a trip is its own space with its own budget, currency and end date, and the app keeps the daily limit current as you and your travel companions add expenses. How the trip budget works.

Questions about the calculator
How is the daily limit calculated?
It is the part of the budget you have not spent yet, divided by the days left (today included) and rounded down. It is the same rule Fam108 uses for a trip space.
Why does today count as a day left?
Because you can still spend money today. If you work it out in the evening after the day’s spending, count from tomorrow.
Does the calculator save or send what I type?
No. The sum is done by a script on this page, in your browser. The numbers are not stored and not sent to any server.
Does it convert currencies?
No. Pick one currency and enter the budget and the spending in it. Fam108 does not convert either: each trip space has one currency.
